Fellowship of Catholic Scholars Board Member Catherine Ruth Pakaluk addressed the Brigham Young University campus community with a lecture on the “century-long implosion” of birth rates and its economic causes. She explained that “children have gone the way of horses. The reason birth rates are really falling is because no one needs a kid — and fewer and fewer people want one.” But, the mother of eight and author of Hannah’s Children: The Women Quietly Defying the Birth Dearth also affirmed the reality that having children is one of the highest pursuits there is and noted that those who believe in God are more likely to see this reality.
