The Center for American Civic Leadership and Public Discourse at the University of South Carolina solicits submissions for a Junior Faculty Workshop on Unalienable Human Rights, May 21 and 22 of 2027.
Our founders rightly recognized that justice requires acknowledgement and respect for those rights that pertain to us simply in virtue of our shared human nature. Yet the nature, scope, grounding, and even existence of such rights remains controverted.
This Junior Faculty Workshop aims to bring six pre-tenure scholars across a range of possible disciplines, including law, philosophy, political theory, history, religion, and others, to workshop draft papers with a senior mentor in their field. The accepted six presenters will each be paired with a senior mentor for a brief presentation of their work (to be read ahead by all participants) followed by substantive discussion, critique, and advice. Mentors will subsequently work with authors to find suitable publication destinations for their work.
Each of the six chosen scholars will receive an honorarium of $1000, and all travel and lodging expenses, to attend the workshop May 21 and 22 of 2027.
We invite submissions on any question or topic concerning unalienable human rights of no more than 10k words for consideration. Submissions may be submitted online by January 4, 2027 for consideration: https://university of south carolina-yrckc.formstack.com/forms/junior_faculty_workshop_on_unalienable_rights.
Authors will be informed of a decision by late January.
