Narcissism, Self-Deception, Conscience and Evil

The first personality disorder recognized by psychiatry was the psychopath - a person who appear to have no conscience.  If true, this would represent the absence of morality.  Evil is better conscieved of as a perversion of morality.  At the individual level, a proposed 'evil' subtype of narcissistic personality disorder uses self-deception to to develop a perverted conscience in which the evil they do is a great good.  The theory also works at the collective level
